3rd April, The count down starts

Winning apples from Batlow
All courts were very busy today with construction and judging.  Preserves, apples, citrus, mushrooms, root vegetables and eggs were on the agenda today.  How they arrange the fruit in those jars is amazing.

Another record is broken

The results are in and the record has been smashed!

All the pumpkins have been weighed in today to find out the largest pumpkin in the District Exhibits section of the Show. Giant pumpkin grown by Earl Knight from Bangalow, is the new record holder with a massive 430kg entry! Congrats Earl and the Northern District team, who have broken the record of 392.8kg set by the Southern District’s Ken Ryan in 2011.

2nd April

It’s that time of year again.  Volunteers are busy constructing the District Exhibits for the Sydney Royal Easter Show.   Work started on the Southern Districts display on Monday 26th March, a week ago now.

This year’s theme for the Districts Exhibits is Australian Year of the Farmer.

Various pumpkins to be included in the display.

Working on this theme, Margie Fitzpatrick has created a design around recognising Australian women in agriculture.  This design includes 20 portraits of women, who have been recognised for their achievements in the Australian agriculture industry.

Southern Districts Display under construction

As well as the work on the design deck, underneath the deck is just as busy too.  Today final judging of the grains took place, as well as pulses, pumpkins, nuts, honey and stone fruits.
